Througha simple connection between the scan tool and the vehicle's diagnosis connector, you will see on your PC screen, clearlydisplayed informationon stored Data Trouble Codes and Working Parameters,like Coolant Temperature, Ignition Timing, Oxygen Sensor, among others.

Theonly requirement for you to install this software on your PC is to have Windows95 / 98 / 2000 installed and a free serial COM port toconnect the equipment.

Firstyou install the AutoScanManager that contains the basic components of the system, and then youinstall the UpgradeModules, that add the particular diagnosis functions of eachvehicle.

Upgrademodules include a CDROMwith the software, the ConnectionCables used in each vehicle and the UserManual.

AutoScan Software

Thissoftware was developed to be used with the SuperScan. Next we will give a briefdescription of the program features.

Vehicle's Brand Selection Screen

Inthis screen we select the brand of the vehicle we want to diagnose. This list isupdated by software, as new updates modules are instaled in your PC.

Onboard System Selection

Thenext step is to select the OnboardSystem you want to diagnose of the vehicle, like Engine Control,Electronic Diesel Injection, ABS, Smart Suspension, Transmission or Air Bag.

Beforecontinuing, you can see how the diagnosis connector is like,its location in the vehicle and which cables you haveto use. Also you can choose the ECU model from a list, to see allwiring information.

Tostart the diagnosis simply press the AutoDetect button, and the SuperScan will autodetect the ECU.

MainScreen

Oncethe communication is established with the ECU, you have the following diagnosticfunctions:

• Read Stored Data Trouble Codes
• Erase Trouble Codes
• Read Working Parameters
• Perform Actuators Test
• Adjustments & Adaptations (depends on ECU)

Inthe upper right section of the screen, is the data corresponding to the modeland part number of the ECU, send during communications initialization.

Fault Code Reading

Herewe will find the quantity of recorded fault codes in the ECU'smemory, the reference number corresponding to each codefollowed by its description. In addition you will findindicated for each code more detailed information.

Forexample, the VW code 518 indicates 'Throttle Position Sensor Failure'and the detail indicates 'Open Circuit or in short to positive'. Thislast text is very useful in determining what is really happening with thecomponent or defective circuit.

Alsothere is a button for the erasure of the codes, and thepossibility to print a list of found codes for handling to yourcustomers.

DataStreamor Working Parameters

Parameterreading is of great importance to diagnosis when fault codes can't guide us intothe problem. Here you will see the working parameters of the diferentcomponents of the onboard system (sensors, actuators and calculatedvalues) with Key On - Engine Off, and with the engine running.

Eachvalue display also indicates, the maximum and minimum value reached, and thepossibility of plotting the value fluctuating. Placing thecursor over the value, it indicates the ideal value taken from theservice manual for that component.

Youcan also record sample of all parameters for later printing.

Nextyou have available al software user's manuals from the SuperScan . In themanuals you will not find specific diagnostic details on each vehicle, so thesequestions should be send to DEC customer service.
